The discussions include ultrathin carpet cloaks, high-gain antennas, multi-beam antennas, OAM generators and RCS reduction using 2D surfaces. Discussions include the theory of TREM using a suitable example of metamaterial based carpet cloak. After fabrication and measurement of the same, it points outs the practical difficulties associated with TREM based devices. Metasurfaces which are 2D equivalents of metamaterials that can invoke electromagnetic phenomena beyond natural limit are one of the solutions to address this difficulty. There is also a discussion on the fundamental physics of metasurface followed by a short review. The work includes investigations on the basic subwavelength elements (metaelements) like patch, ring, cross, slot, and Jerusalem. These meta-elements possess insufficient phase swing. Further investigations showed that a remodeled Jerusalem cross type meta-element could produce approx
