Chilika is the largest coastal brackish water lagoon of Asia and second largest coastal lagoon in the world. The brackish water coastal lagoon is very versatile aquatic ecosystem harbouring many microalgae. Keeping in mind that microalgae are promising source of lipid for biodiesel production with limited notation has been carried out on microalgae isolated from the Chilika lagoon. The aim of the study is to survey the water quality of Chilika lagoon, microalgal/phytoplankton diversity, isolate selected microalgae and grow them under different stress conditions (pH, salt, temperature, nitrogen and phosphate) for lipid production to be used as biodiesel. The samples were collected from nine sites (S1 to S9) under four different sectors of Chilika lagoon such as Northern Sector, Central sector, Southern Sector and Outer channel Sec |
