The research is an engagement with the question of women s subjectivity, specifically looking at it through the daughter s relationship with her father, in the Indian context. It engages in depth with existing psychoanalytic literature on femininity, female development and fathers, such as works by Jessica Benjamin, Adrienne Harris, Leticia Glocer Fiorini, Julia Kristeva, Rosine Perelberg and Michael Diamond. Further, the study suggests that when looking at women s subjectivity, the role of patriarchal mandates that exist in a culture, cannot be ignored. The research leans on psychoanalytic thinking that brings together ideas of working in the clinic and social justice such as work by Lynne Layton and positions itself both as an attempt to recognize a protest that many women are expressing against the oppression as well as a mourning for all that has been lost for women over generation |
