BA, BSD, K051, K039 and K012 all the phytoestrogenic molecules activate the P- I- 3- kinase cascade either alone or synergistically with insulin in stimulation of glucose utilization along with GLUT4 translocation in skeletal muscle cells. In mice model of insulin resistance BA have shown an improvement in oral glucose tolerance and amelio rates insulin resistance in skeletal muscle, adipose tissue and liver showing potentials for the management of peripheral insulin resistance. These findings altogether suggests that phytoestrogens have potentials for development as antidiabetic agent for t he management of peripheral insulin resistance and associated complications.
