520__|anewlineThe assessment of rationality is the outcome of research on drug utilisation. Analysing the usage of drugs can reveal whether the total drug expenditure is within budget, or some specific drugs are to be blamed for budget overspending or underspending. A total of 849 patients participated in the study undergoing periodontal treatment in the department of periodontics of a dental college in Himachal Pradesh. WHO prescription indicators were calculated to assess prescription rationality, and results were compared with ideal values. The DDD was calculated per 1000 inhabitants per day to measure the overall volume of drugs used.
