520__|aAs far as the value addition of coir is concerned, flame retardancy is considered to be one of the most important properties in both industries as well as academic researchers. Flame retardant property with thermal stability was imparted to coir by natural plant extracts and its bio enriched formulation. The plant extracts as well as bio enriched liquor was characterised by elemental and phytochemical analysis. Flame retardant properties of the untreated and treated coir samples were analysed by vertical flammability, horizontal flammability, limiting oxygen index and tablet test. Pyrolysis and physiochemical composition of untreated and fire-retardant coir were evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis, fourier transform infrared spectroscopic analysis and scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Physical and mechanical properties of untreated and treated fiber were carried out using tensile strength, flexural rigidity, density and water absorption analysis. Microbial studies of bio
