Being so, the selection of sustainable construction practices and also the evaluation of sustainability in construction can address these issues to a certain extent. Phase I of this research focuses on the above-mentioned two-fold objective and it seeks to propose a comprehensive conceptual framework for sustainable construction. This framework can be considered as a holistic approach that will address diverse elements of sustainability; it will be multi-dimensional in nature with a systematic grouping of indicators, criteria and sub-criteria under each mode of sustainability socio-cultural, economic, technological and environmental. Together, they will contribute towards the objective of sustainable construction and will assist the stakeholders in the selection/ evaluation of prevailing construction practices suitable for sustainable construction.Concurrently, the depletion of natural resources and the dumping of waste mate
