The tropical stratosphere exhibits the annual minimum temperature when the polar stratosphere reaches its highest temperature. It indicates the existence of strong coupling between the low and high latitudes associated with SSW. The studies show that the SSWs are not only focused towards high/mid-latitudes, but also its effects can extend to low latitude stratospheric and tropospheric fields. This promising observational evidence inspired us to investigate the influence of SSW on tropical weather systems, especially over the Indian subcontinent. |
