520__|aContext: Herbs have been used as medicines since decades and some derivatives (eg, reserpine, aspirin, and digitalis) have become mainstays of human pharmacotherapy. For CVD, herbal treatments have been used in individuals suffering with systolic hypertension, congestive heart failure, angina pectoris, cerebral insufficiency, atherosclerosis, venous insufficiency, and arrhythmia. But, many medicinal herbs used today have not undergone careful scientific valuation, and some have the ability to cause serious toxic effects and major drug-to-drug interactions.newlineAim: This study was carried out to analyze the cardioprotective efficacy of Patharishtam (an ayurvedic formulation) for the treatmet of myocardial infarction in rat model. The therapeutic efficacy of Partharishtam was compared with standard drug, Propranolol.newlineMethods: GC- MS analysis was carried out to find various bio active molecules present in this ayurvedic formulation, Partharishtam, which is a known cardio tonic medicine.
