520__|aThere are diverse hypotheses concerning the possible association in the literature between tobacco habits and the colonization of oral candida. The gamut of fungal infections has experienced a radical change; the organisms, which was minimally invasive or had a less pathogenic character have become a more pathogenic and the organisms which was once susceptible now has become resistant to the antifungals. The subjective perception based on Oral Health Related Quality of Life (OHRQOL) has broadened the knowledge on dental research, education and the guidelines to clinical practice. The subjective viewpoint on quality of life differs from culture to culture and studies at the conceptual level is therefore necessary especially in countries like India where the OHRQOL has not been studied much. Therefore, time and again baseline data is required for planning future research and preventive programs.
