The study aimed to determine the antibiotic resistance patterns and characterize the ESBL and Ampc beta lactamases through various phenotypic and genotypic methods among the Enterobacteriaceae. A prospective convenient cross-sectional study was conducted during a period from January 2015 to December 2019 at Sree Balaji Medical College and hospital. Two hundred Enterobactericeae isolates isolated from various outpatients and inpatients clinical specimens including urine, sputum, pus, wound swab, body fluids and blood. The isolates were identified using standard biochemical test. Antibiogram was done by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method. Screening of ESBL isolates were done by cefotaxime, ceftazidime and ceftriaxone. Phenotypic characterization of ESBL was done by phenotypic confirmatory test. And multiplex PCR for CTX-M gene was done. Phenotypic characteriz
