| 520 | __ | |aPolycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent and frequently encountered endocrine disorder among females. It is called by many different names like Stein Leventhal syndrome and hyperandrogenic anovulation. There are several clinical features which define the syndrome like menstrual cycle disturbances, infertility, obesity, hirsutism, acne. It has been suggested that this condition occurs in as many as 4 to 10% of women in reproductive age group of 15 to 45 years with early onset in puberty. It has been considered as one major cause of female sub fertility. SHBG is a protein that binds to both testosterone and estradiol. Its amount varies widely in patients and if the SHBG is either low or high the amount of active bio-available testosterone can vary widely. Insulin resistance is hallmark for many diseases like obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome.
