520__|aThe work presented in this thesis deals with the investigations carried out on the elastic buckling behavior of stepped beams /circular plates of symmetric configuration, when the axial/radial displacements are restrained to move. The simply supported and clamped boundary conditions of stepped beams/circular plates, subjected to mechanical axial /radial compressive load, or the induced mechanical equivalent of the compressive thermal loads when these structural members are subjected to uniform temperature rise from the stress free temperature. The buckling analysis, carried out in the thesis, is classified into two categories, with the single or different material combinations, based on the practical considerations, which are used in the efficient design of beams /circular plates.newline
