The main causes of floods are heavy rainfall, inadequate capacity of rivers to carry the high flood discharge, and inadequate drainage to carry away the rainwater quickly to streams/rivers. However, information on rainfall and flood is very critical for alerting the people and evacuating them subsequently. Rainfall is a highly spatially variable and is measured conventionally by point-based fixed rain gauge stations. Rain gauges provide a relatively direct measurement of rainfall at a specific point but their availability in near real-time and at an appropriate spatial resolution is limited. Similarly, the hydrological discharge sites measure the river flood discharge volume on daily basis during the flood season but do not provide information for relief management. Moreover, the assessment of actual flood extent cannot be practically mapped through field visits due to the hu
