520__|aThe research study was undertaken to evaluate the antidiabetic and antioxidant activities of ethanolic and aqueous extracts of five indigenous medicinal plants, Curcuma amada (Zingiberaceae),newlinePaspalum scrobiculatum (Poaceae), Ichnocarpus frutescens (Apocynaceae), Hedychium coronarium (Zingiberaceae), and Ageratum conyzoides (Asteraceae), used in traditional systems of medicine.newlinePharmacognostic and physicochemical studies were carried out to confirm the identification of the plant parts. Qualitative and quantitative phytochemical studies were performed to identify andnewlinequantify the main chemical constituents.newlineThe pharmacological study included oral glucose tolerance test, determination of fasting blood sugar levels, serum lipid profile, serum insulin levels, liver glycogen content and changes in body weight. Various in vitro and in vivo antioxidant studies were carried out tonewlineevaluate the effect of the plants on free radicals mediated tissue injury.
