This results in the plastic flow of material from the peaks of surface irregularities into the valleys, there by reducing the surface roughness. This cold working of the surface improves micro-hardness, induces compressive stresses and refines the microstructure. This improvement has a positive impact on the surface characteristics like corrosion resistance, wear resistance, fatigue life etc. The main theme of this research work is to establish concrete experimental and analytical evidence, which can illustrate the versatility of roller burnishing process, in enhancing the surface properties. The surface characteristics which were analyzed in this work are surface finish, micro-hardness, induced compressive stresses, micro-structure, corrosion resistance and wear resistance. Extensive experimental work was done in order to determine the effect of roller burnishing on these ch |
